Either because of bugs in the MMI (of which there are plenty), or because Audi has server issues/maintenance (which happens very often). If the issue persists, force reboot the MMI once a day until it gets better (hold down the power/volume knob until the MMI and climate displays both turn off). Try a factory reset after a few days.
Also delete your current phone from the MMI. Install Android Auto again. Connect your phone again to the car's MMI (without using the android cable). Turn off the car. Plug your phone in using the supplied cable to the car's USB and start the car again. If all goes well you may get pop up messages on both your phone and the MMI.

You probbably have to change the microphones in the roof - depending on the configuration of MMI in your car you might have 1, 2, 3 or 4 microphones in the lamp module in the roof - i am guessing that you only have 1 microphone (for GALA). You need at least 2 for the handsfree to work. 2005 A2 1,6 FSI S-Line.

Audio over Bluetooth stopped working. Just the other day I went to play a song from the Youtube app (nursery songs for the kiddo) via bluetooth and the audio won't work. When I turn up the volume the MMI screen says audio unavailable. I have successfully been able to listen to Youtube via bluetooth since I owned the car (2017 model).
